Kim Margesson, Hervey 1972 – 1975

From The Falcon Magazine, 1975 (Published in April 1976)

Kim MargessonAll those of us who knew Kim Margesson were deeply saddened to hear of his tragic death in the Christmas holidays. Kim came to Falcon from Digglefold School in 1972, and from the first showed himself to be unusually gifted.

His academic record was distinguished and his “O” Level results, which were published recently, were among the best of his year. As a sportsman he showed an all-round ability that few could match. In particular, he was a fine cricketer and he had already played for the 1st XI for half a season as a fifteen-year-old. Shortly before his death he had been on tour in South Africa with the Rhodesian Fawns XI.

Yet, for all his talents, Kim remained unassuming and modest. This, along with the cheerful, good-natured manner won him the friendship and respect of us all. To his family we extend our most sincere sympathy.

Kim was killed in a car crash. Anyone who has attended a prize-giving ceremony at Falcon since 1976 will be familiar with the Kim Margesson Memorial Trophy. This is given each year in memory of this remarkable young man. As a junior in Hervey in 1975, I was a couple of years junior to Kim but remember looking up to him as ‘one of the good guys’ and was, with the rest of Hervey, shocked to hear of his death.
